When looking for information about Qigong online, many people type Shigong, Shugong, Shigung, Xigong, Chi Kung, Chi Gong, Qui Gong, Gigong, or Chigon, I know this is terribly difficult! It took me some time as well!

Don’t worry! they all refer to the same practice and you are in the right place. The correct spelling is Qigong, which is the modern and official way to write it.

The word Qigong (氣功) comes from Chinese. “Qi” means life energy or breath, and “Gong” means skill or work developed through practice. Before the modern spelling system (Pinyin) was used, people wrote the word how they heard it,  that’s why you see different spellings like Chi Kung or Chi Gong. All these different spellings refers to the same ancient Chinese practice of cultivating energy through movement, breathing and awareness.
